Job Summary
Legal Assistant to support intellectual property attorneys in patent prosecution, managing domestic and international filings, docketing, and client communications. Responsibilities include preparing and submitting USPTO filings, coordinating with foreign associates, maintaining attorney dockets, drafting and formatting legal documents and correspondence, assisting with matter intake and billing, and ensuring confidential, compliant file management in a fast-paced IP practice.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Business, Administrative Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will also be considered
- 2+ years of experience supporting attorneys or legal professionals, ideally within an Intellectual Property, patent prosecution, or related legal practice environment
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize effectively, and maintain exceptional attention to detail
- Strong client service orientation with the ability to build positive working relationships internally and externally
- Excellent written communication, proofreading, and document production skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF editing tools
- Familiarity with USPTO filings, patent prosecution procedures, Patent Center, docketing systems, or intellectual property software is highly desirable
- Experience coordinating international filings or working with foreign associates is a plus
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a team
- Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to problem-solving
