Job Summary
Conduct intake screenings and follow-up appointments with Veterans and families via telephone, in person, and in the field at DHS installations and shelters. Navigate applicants through program services, documentation standards, and necessary supports while assessing immediate household needs and providing referrals. Schedule and manage appointments, collect required documentation for enrollment, and maintain records in DHS CARES and AWARDS systems. Prepare intake reports, formal letters, and respond to information requests from internal staff and external agencies. Out in the field approximately 75% of the time throughout Nassau and Suffolk County; a clean driving record is required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors' degree or higher preferred
- Out in the field approximately 75% of the time throughout Nassau and Suffolk County
- Required to meet Veterans out in the field, either using their personal vehicle or the company vehicle
- A clean driving record is required is using a company vehicle
- Willingness to attend occasional events outside of normal business hours
- Ability to work on Veterans Day
Desired Qualifications
- Former service in the U.S. Armed Forces
- past experience with working with U.S. military veterans
- high level of military cultural competency
