Job Summary
Intake RN performs admissions-related duties for behavioral health patients, including screening, initial evaluation, insurance verification, and coordination of admission decisions with physicians. Works closely with nursing, business office, and clinical teams to ensure timely admissions, provides coverage for call center duties during high volume, documents patient symptoms and needs, and may administer medications under physician supervision. Position is on-site in Leland, NC with a night-shift schedule (9pm–7am) from Thursday to Sunday, and includes responsibilities such as pre-certifications, communicating treatment recommendations, and facilitating admissions across care levels. Requires nursing licensure and completion of associated certifications; BSN is preferred and prior mental health admissions experience is advantageous.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required
- RN license from state or compact state
- CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required
- BSN preferred
- One or more years' experience in mental health or substance use disorder admissions preferred
- Experience in clinical interviewing, patient assessment, referral, treatment planning
- Experience in the managed care pre-certification process, level of care assessments and utilization
- Outstanding interpersonal and interviewing and assessment skills
- Skill in telephone etiquette and paging procedures
