Job Summary
Insurance Verifier at Houston Methodist verifies and records eligibility and benefit information for patients, confirms authorizations, notifies admissions as applicable, and calculates patient liability with estimates to determine financial responsibility. Requires effective communication with patients, co-workers, insurance companies, and physicians; proficient in Microsoft Office and EPIC- or similar EHR systems; strong knowledge of CPT/ICD coding and Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement; capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced hospital/clinic environment and coordinating with scheduling and financial clearance processes.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- One year of healthcare experience including insurance verification, preferably in a hospital or clinic setting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office components (e.g., Outlook, Word) and knowledge of electronic health record software (EPIC preferred)
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care reimbursement methodologies
- Mid-level medical terminology and knowledge of insurance requirements for physician visits and procedures
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers
