Job Summary
Verify patient insurance coverage by researching accounts, contacting patients and insurance companies, and updating benefit information in the practice management system. Resolve unverified coverage issues, correct errors in work queues, and escalate complications to supervisors. Confirm effective and termination dates, select appropriate registered insurance, and notify servicing providers of missing billing information. Utilize system tools, payer portals, and phone calls to obtain real-time eligibility and ensure accurate claim filing.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED certificate
- 6 months experience in a physician billing or third party payor environment
- Ability to understand and navigate the insurance verification process including coordination of benefits
- In depth understanding of In/Out of Network Benefits and how they relate to co-insurance and deductibles
- Strong customer service and patient focused orientation
- Ability to communicate, adapt, and respond to complex situations
- Ability to diffuse complex situations in a calm and professional manner
- Effective communication skills both verbally and written
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
- Functional proficiency in computer software skills (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, E-mail, etc.)
- Reside in the Tri-State area
- Ability to visit the office for training, meetings, and other business needs occasionally
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in Epic and or other of electronic billing systems
- Proficiency in health insurance benefits, eligibility requirements and obtaining authorizations
- Knowledge of insurance billing requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnosis and procedure coding
- Previous experience in an academic healthcare setting
