Job Summary
Insurance Verification & Authorization Specialist I responsible for verifying insurance coverage, obtaining authorizations, and documenting activities to support timely access to home health and hospice services. Serves as a liaison between insurance companies, clinical teams, financial counselors, and internal departments; manages Epic work queues, re-verifications, and ongoing authorization requirements throughout the patient episode; supports EVV and data integrity initiatives, and participates in departmental process improvements. Typical responsibilities include communicating eligibility and benefits, obtaining initial authorizations and reauthorizations, compiling and submitting supporting clinical information, and maintaining up-to-date payer guidelines to ensure compliant, efficient patient care. Hybrid schedule based in Morristown, NJ.
Required Qualifications
- Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits across multiple payer sources
- Obtains initial authorizations and precertifications
- Manages pending authorizations and reauthorizations for home health and hospice
- Documents authorization activity in Epic
- Maintains knowledge of payer guidelines and coverage requirements
- Interacts with insurance companies, CACs, clinicians, and other departments
- Supports EVV processes and data integrity initiatives
- Participates in process improvement to enhance workflow and patient service
- Works during a hybrid schedule
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Experience with Epic software for documentation and queue management
- Understanding of payer requirements and clinical documentation for authorizations
