Job Summary
Handle PIP files from inception to conclusion, including pleadings, depositions, motion practice, negotiations, trial, and appeal. Analyze complex legal and factual issues to develop and implement effective litigation strategies. Manage discovery by drafting requests and responses, taking and defending depositions, and analyzing medical records. Direct support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to handling legal proceedings. Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisors. This role requires an active Michigan law license, A.B.A. accredited law degree, and 2+ years of PIP litigation experience. Starting salary ranges from $100,000 to $160,000. Required Qualifications
- Must have a law degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school
- Must have excellent academic credentials
- Must have outstanding written and oral advocacy skills
- Must have strong software/technological skills including competency in Word, Outlook and Westlaw
- Must be well organized
- Must be detail oriented
- Must be able to independently manage a caseload where work is time sensitive
- Must have an active law license to practice in Michigan
- Must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan
- Must have knowledge of local and state discovery rules
- Must have knowledge of trial procedures
- Must have knowledge of applicable substantive law commensurate with level of experience
- Must have experience presenting and cross-examining lay and expert witnesses
- Must have experience working in a paperless electronic environment
- Must have strong automation/technological skills for lawsuit handling and courtroom presentation
- Must be able to frequently move about the office to coordinate work with others
- Must be able to stand, sit and type for extended periods
- Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 5 lbs
- Must be able to frequently communicate with others in-person, on the phone/virtually, and in writing
- Must be able to read, understand, process and evaluate large amounts of technical information
- Must be able to make related, informed decisions
- Must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S.
Desired Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience handling PIP litigation
- Additional handling of first and third party claims for auto carriers
- Preferred qualification is the handling of PIP defense matters
