Job Summary
Represent clients in all areas of insurance defense practice, handling low-complexity BI/UM and PIP cases from intake to resolution. Litigate cases through preparation of pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs, while attending hearings, conferences, mediations, and trials. Proactively inform leadership of case challenges and consult with the Claims Department on legal file aspects. May handle second chair trials or receive developmental assignments for moderate complexity matters. Perform other tasks to ensure efficient case management.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed to practice Law in applicable states
- Civil litigation and/or personal/bodily injury experience
- Public speaking
- Ability to function in adversarial or confrontational situations
- Driving
- Strong verbal communication and listening skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Effective negotiation skills
- Ability to represent the company with external constituents
- Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision making skills
- Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills
- Possesses strong technical aptitude
- Adept and proficient at using technology to maximize efficiency in virtual, paperless environment
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelors degree
- Experience handling in-person appearances and trials
- Experience handling cases that are primarily low in complexity and exposure
- Experience managing all phases of cases from intake to resolution
- Experience preparing pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs
- Experience attending hearings, conferences, interviews, mediations, arbitrations, and/or trials
- Experience proactively informing leadership of case handling opportunities and challenges
- Experience consulting with the Claims Department on the legal aspects of files
- Experience performing other tasks or duties to ensure efficient case management
- Experience handling second chair trials
- Experience handling trials in cases with minimal complexity and/or exposure
- Experience providing support to senior attorneys in cases of greater complexity and/or exposure
- Experience receiving developmental assignments of matters that are of moderate complexity and/or exposure
- Experience navigating stairs, ramps, and level or uneven surfaces
- Experience moving, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, and placing objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Experience performing fine motor tasks such as typing, mousing, or writing
- Experience bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, twisting, and reaching overhead or below the knees
- Experience with clear vision, with or without correction
- Experience with adequate hearing, with or without correction
- Experience with regular travel between Farmers offices, alternative work locations, and/or field locations
- Experience working in a climate-controlled office environment
- Experience with exposure to uncontrolled outside environmental conditions
- Experience with travel via automobile and/or commercial transportation
- Experience working in a virtual, paperless environment
