Job Summary
Lead Insurance Agency Accountant responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations within an independent agency environment, supervising a team of three associates, and delivering timely and accurate financial reporting. Responsibilities include general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, account analysis, month- and year-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement preparation; support forecasting, auditing, tax preparation, and regulatory reporting; manage cash flow, A/R and A/P, banking relationships, and coordinate with external auditors. Develop and maintain accounting procedures and internal controls to ensure compliance and reporting accuracy; utilize Applied Epic or similar AMS for accounting and reporting. Requires 7+ years of accounting experience in the insurance industry and prior leadership of accounting staff; is a hybrid role with a Monday–Friday schedule in Ashburn, VA.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years accounting experience in the insurance industry
- Experience overseeing or leading accounting staff
- Experience with general ledger reconciliations, financial reporting, month-end close
- Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office
- Experience using Applied Epic or similar Agency Management System (AMS)
