Job Summary
Apply, remove, and repair insulating material to exposed surfaces, air ducts, pipes, tanks, and boilers to control noise and maintain temperatures. Read blueprints, select required materials like fiberglass, foam rubber, or urethane based on heat retention and surface shape, and measure, cut, and fit insulation using handsaws, knives, or scissors. Brush adhesives, attach metal adhesive applications, and cover or seal insulation with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape using staple guns, trowels, paintbrushes, or caulking guns. Work at heights safely. Requires 3-5 years of Journeyman-level experience; applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Austin Industrial provides premier self-perform maintenance and construction services to leading industrial companies across the U.S.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of Journeyman level experience
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States
- Must be able to apply, remove, and repair insulating material to exposed surfaces or structures, such as air ducts, hot or cold pipes, storage tanks, boilers and buildings to help control noise and maintain temperatures
- Work at heights with no fear
- Must be able to read blueprints
- Must be able to determine the amounts and select required insulation material (in sheet, tubular, or roll form), such as fiberglass, foam rubber, Styrofoam, cork, and urethane based on material's ability to retain heat, location, surface, shape, and equipment use
- Must be able to measure and cut insulation material to specified size and shape for covering flat or round surfaces, using handsaw, knife, or scissors
- Must be able to fit, wrap or attach required insulation material around or to structure, following blueprint specifications
- Must be able to cover or seal insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant or tape to secure insulation to the structure - according to the type of insulation used and structure covered, using staple gun, trowel, paintbrush, or caulking gun
