Job Summary
Installs, removes, inspects, tests, calibrates, and adjusts gas, metering devices, regulators and relief valves. Responsible for the compliance and maintenance of all gas safety instruments and tools. Plans and schedules instrument repair work. Installs and removes gas meters of all sizes and types. Repairs, tests and adjusts all types and sizes of gas meters in the meter shop or at customers locations. Installs and removes gas regulators and relief valves. Repairs, tests and adjusts gas regulators and relief valves. Checks and sets operating pressure of regulators and relief valves in the shop and at customers locations. Installs and removes gas meter, pressure and temperature correcting devices. Tests for accuracy and makes correcting adjustments to gas meter and pressure and temperature correcting devices. Trains employees on use of gas metering equipment and safety instruments. Responsible for the compliance driven testing, calibration, and repairs of gas tools and equipment, including but not limited to CGI’s, flame-paks, odorometers, gauges, fusion equipment, and chart recorders. Reads gas meters. Operates and maintains all types of meter testing equipment. Issues short term replacement tooling and oversight of associated tooling inventory. Keeps records and makes reports as required. Performs soldering as required. Instructs and trains others in the same or lower classifications. Makes customer contacts as may be required. Keeps the meter shop, trucks and equipment neat and orderly. Performs all work according to established company procedures and safety practices. Required Qualifications
- Certification from instrument manufacturers or equivalent in instrument maintenance
- 2 years’ experience in the more skilled phases of gas distribution work
- 2 years of active instrument repair, basic knowledge of electronics and soldering on circuit boards
- Must possess a valid driver’s license

- This position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 40 and PHMSA regulations (Part 199)
