Job Summary

Lead and teach sports, recreation, and leisure classes for youth, teens, adults, and seniors while demonstrating skills and ensuring proper form. Supervise participants continuously to monitor safety, maintain order, and prevent accidents, administering first aid and CPR as necessary. Resolve program issues within established guidelines, suggest improvements, and maintain accurate participant and program records. Inspect class sites and equipment for safety, report maintenance needs, and foster positive relationships with participants and parents. Interpret facility policies, communicate clearly with the public, and comply with all District and mandated safety rules.

Required Qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade
  • One (1) year of experience providing direct instruction/training/coaching to participants in a sports, recreation, and/or leisure program related to the assigned area of responsibility
  • Two (2) years of experience providing direct instruction/training/coaching to participants in a sports, recreation, and/or leisure program related to the assigned area of responsibility
  • Three (3) years of experience providing direct instruction/training/coaching to participants in a sports, recreation, and/or leisure program related to the assigned area of responsibility
  • Four (4) years of experience providing direct instruction/training/coaching to participants in a sports, recreation, and/or leisure program related to the assigned area of responsibility
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment
  • Possession of valid certifications in First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) for adult, child and infant, to be maintained throughout employment
  • Successful completion of the District's proprietary instructor training modules and coursework within six (6) months of hire
  • Possession of a valid, basic/entry level, license or certification required to perform work in the assigned area of instructional specialty from a national governing body, to be maintained throughout employment
  • Possession of a valid, intermediate level license or certification related to assigned area of instructional specialty from a national governing body, to be maintained throughout employment
  • Possession of a valid, advanced level, license or certification related to assigned area of instructional specialty from a national governing body, to be maintained throughout employment
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 50 pounds, or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment
