Job Summary
Part-time Instructor for FRENCH GRAMMAR REVIEW & PRACTICE FREN 1P93 (3 LEC, 1 M 1300-1600). Duties and responsibilities will follow Article 22.01 of the Collective Agreement and include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (lecture preparation, student consultation, marking/grading, and course administration including grade appeals and academic dishonesty). Successful candidate will collaborate with the BUFA course coordinator for multi-section courses or with the Director of French Studies for single-section courses. Qualifications include a graduate degree in French studies with proven university-level teaching of second-year French, native or near-native English and French, ability to implement Standard International French, evidence of teaching competence, ability to work independently and in a team, involvement in curriculum development, web-based teaching, and proficiency with Brightspace, email, MS Office, and multimedia tools. Availability for student consultations (office hours) and exam proctoring is required. The role may involve on-campus work per Brock University’sFlexible Work Arrangement Policy; applications must include cover letter, resume, course/performance evaluations, and two references. Required Qualifications
- Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of French studies with a record of sustained successful teaching of second-year language courses in French at a University level
- Native or near native fluency in English and French
- Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French
- Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references
- Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
- Ability to work within a team; clear comprehension of multi-section teaching; active participation in curriculum development; sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking
- Commitment to participate in required committee marking including online activities, mid-term and final exams
- Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources in the teaching of the course
- Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
- Commitment to responsible time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures)
- Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required) and proctoring exams
