Job Summary
Teach 20th-Century French Literature: 1935 to 1970 (FREN 4P55) in a face-to-face format with responsibilities including scheduled contact time, lectures, seminars, preparation, student consultations, marking and grading, and course administration. Collaborate with BUFA course coordinator for multi-section courses or with the Director of French Studies for single-section courses. Utilize web-based pedagogical techniques and tools (e-workbook, SAKAI/Brightspace, WebCT). Maintain office hours (1.5 hours per section per week), manage tests/exams, and ensure timely assessment and grade appeals. Required Qualifications
- Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd or MA) in modern French literature and/or culture (19th to 21st centuries) with a record of sustained successful teaching of upper-level French at a University level
- Native or near native fluency in English and French; commitment to Standard International French
- Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence in French at University level, official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references
- Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision; active participation in curriculum development
- Responsibility for careful test, mid-term and final exam preparation; development of online activities; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking
- Commitment to incorporating web-based pedagogical techniques and tools (including e-workbook) in teaching
- Competence in use of email, SAKAI/Brightspace, WebCT, internet, common office software (Word, Excel) and multimedia equipment
- Commitment to time management (course structuring, punctual lectures) and availability for individual student consultations (office hours) and proctoring exams
