Job Summary
Instructor for FREN 2P10 Fall D2 at Brock University. Faciliate face-to-face instruction for a French linguistics course (Intro to the Linguistic Study of French) within the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. Duties include scheduled contact time with students, lecture preparation, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration including grade appeals and handling academic dishonesty. Collaboration with BUFA course coordinator for multi-section courses or with the Director of French Studies for single-section courses. Qualifications include a PhD in French studies with sustained university-level teaching in linguistics, native or near-native English and French, ability to work independently and in a team, and proficiency with web-based pedagogical tools and Brightspace. Additional requirements include office hours, test preparation, and compliance with the Collective Agreement and course curriculum delivery across terms.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of French studies with a record of sustained successful teaching of linguistics in French at a University level
- Native or near native fluency in English and French; Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French
- Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references
- Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision; Ability to work within a team; clear comprehension of multi-section teaching; active participation in curriculum development; sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking
- Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including textbook instructional platform, etc.) in the teaching of the course
- Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
- Commitment to responsible time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures)
- Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required) and proctoring exams
