Job Summary

Part-time instructor for FREN 2F00 Fall/Winter delivering Grammar & Composition for second-year French; duties include scheduled contact time with students, lectures, labs, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration per the Collective Agreement. Successful candidate will work with BUFA course coordinator on multi-section courses or with the Director of French Studies for single-section courses; requires ability to incorporate web-based pedagogical techniques and tools (including Brightspace) and to contribute to curriculum development. Availability for office hours and exam proctoring, with on-campus duties as needed. Must hold a graduate degree in French studies with demonstrated teaching at the university level and native or near-native fluency in English and French, plus documentation of teaching effectiveness and references. The role encompasses collaboration, online activities, test preparation, and adherence to university policies regarding workload and academic integrity. Required Qualifications

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in French studies with a record of sustained successful teaching of second-year language courses at University level
  • Native or near native fluency in English and French
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French
  • Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Ability to work within a team; clear comprehension of multi-section teaching; active participation in curriculum development; sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking
  • Commitment to participate in required committee marking including online activities, mid-term and final exams
  • Commitment to incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques and resources in teaching of the course; competence in use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software and multimedia equipment
  • Commitment to responsible time management (course structuring, punctuality for lectures)
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week) and proctoring exams
