Job Summary
Part-time instructor for the FREN 1F90 Fall/Winter course at Brock University. Responsible for scheduled contact time with students, lectures and labs, grading and marking, course administration, and collaboration with BUFA course coordinators or the Director of French Studies for multi-section/single-section courses. Requires graduate-level qualifications in French, native or near-native English/French proficiency, and demonstrated ability to teach second-year university-level French; proficiency with web-based pedagogical tools (Brightspace) and online assessment; ability to work independently and in teams; willingness to participate in curriculum development and online activities; standard classroom duties including office hours, test preparation, and exam handling. Required Qualifications
- Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of French studies with a record of sustained successful teaching of second-year language courses in French at a University level
- Native or near native fluency in English and French
- Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French
- Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references
- Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
- Ability to work within a team; clear comprehension of multi-section teaching; active participation in curriculum development; sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking
- Commitment to participate in required committee marking including online activities, mid-term and final exams
- Commitment to incorporating web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources in the teaching of the course (including textbook instructional platform)
- Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
- Commitment to responsible time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures)
- Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required) and proctoring exams
