Job Summary
Part-time instructor for French II/1F90 courses at Brock University, delivering face-to-face instruction with a focus on second-year language teaching. Responsibilities include scheduled contact time with students, preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, course administration (including grade appeals and academic dishonesty cases), and collaboration with BUFA course coordinator or the Director of French Studies for multi-section or single-section courses. Requires a Graduate Degree in French studies with sustained university-level teaching, native or near-native English and French, and proficiency in Standard International French. Emphasizes web-based pedagogy, use of Brightspace and common office tools, curriculum development, timely assessment, and adherence to collective-agreement guidelines. Positions may involve multiple terms across Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer terms and are contingent on enrollment and budget approval; on-campus work required with flexible arrangements where possible.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of French studies with a record of sustained successful teaching of second-year language courses in French at a University level
- Native or near native fluency in English and French
- Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French
- Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references
- Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
- Ability to work within a team; clear comprehension of multi-section teaching; active participation in curriculum development; sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking
- Commitment to participate in required committee marking including online activities, mid-term and final exams
- Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources in the teaching of the course
- Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
- Commitment to responsible time management (course structuring, punctuality for lectures)
- Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required) and proctoring exams
