Job Summary

Instructors for FREN 1F00 Fall/Winter (Section 2) teach second-year French in a two-hour weekly lecture with a required seminar/lab component, coordinating with BUFA course coordinators for multi-section courses. Responsibilities include delivering lectures, preparing course materials, student consultation, grading and assessment, managing course administration including grade appeals and addressing academic dishonesty, and proctoring exams. The successful candidate will work with the Director of French Studies for single-section courses, participate in curriculum development, incorporate web-based pedagogical techniques and platforms (e.g., Brightspace), and manage time effectively to meet weekly office hours and course deadlines. Strong evidence of graduate-level teaching in French, native or near-native bilingual proficiency, and ability to work both independently and in teams is required. Required Qualifications

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in French studies with sustained successful teaching of second-year language courses at University level
  • Native or near-native fluency in English and French; Commitment to Standard International French
  • Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses at University level; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references
  • Ability to work independently and in a team; experience with multi-section teaching; curriculum development; test preparation; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking; committee marking including online activities and mid-term/final exams
  • Experience incorporating web-based pedagogical techniques and tools (including Brightspace, online platforms) into teaching
  • Proficiency with common office software and multimedia tools; strong time-management and office-hours commitments
  • Availability for individual student consultations (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week) and proctoring exams
  • Commitment to inclusive recruitment and equity policies; awareness of collective agreement and workload policies; on-campus requirement with flexibility to work on site as needed
