Job Summary
Teach Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced ESL courses up to 27.5 hours weekly, delivering engaging, student-centered instruction using a learning management system. Prepare lesson plans, grade student work, and monitor progress via assessment tools while maintaining records to report academic progress to the Academic Dean. Provide academic advising to support student growth and retention, and organize quarterly field trips for enrichment. Participate in quarterly in-service meetings, attend external professional development activities, and contribute to program improvement through committee work and feedback.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of pedagogical methods teaching ESL
- Native or near-native ability to speak English
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in ESL/EFL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics or Linguistics (or related field)
- At least two years of prior teaching experience to adult learners
- Language teaching methodology
- The nature of language/languages (e.g., introduction to linguistics)
- The structure of English ( e.g., syntax, phonology, morphology, discourse)
- Second language acquisition
- Intercultural communication ( e.g., sociolinguistics, cross-cultural studies)
- Practicum experience
- Close vision
- Distance vision
- Color vision
- Peripheral vision
- Depth perception
- Ability to adjust focus
Desired Qualifications
- At least two years of prior teaching experience to adult learners preferred
- Stay well-informed with the trends and developments in ESL studies by attending professional development activities outside of CSI and completing a minimum of two professional growth activities annually
