Job Summary
Teach Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced ESL courses up to 27.5 hours weekly while planning lessons and grading student work. Deliver student-centered instruction using a learning management system, monitor progress with assessment tools, and provide academic advising to support retention. Maintain records of student academic progress for the Academic Dean and organize quarterly field trips for enrichment. Attend quarterly in-service meetings and complete at least two annual professional development activities to stay current on ESL trends. Contribute to program improvement through committee participation and feedback.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of pedagogical methods teaching ESL
- Native or near-native ability to speak English
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in ESL/EFL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics or Linguistics (or related field)
- At least two years of prior teaching experience to adult learners
- Language teaching methodology
- The nature of language/languages (e.g., introduction to linguistics)
- The structure of English ( e.g., syntax, phonology, morphology, discourse)
- Second language acquisition
- Intercultural communication ( e.g., sociolinguistics, cross-cultural studies)
- Practicum experience
- Close vision
- Distance vision
- Color vision
- Peripheral vision
- Depth perception
- Ability to adjust focus
Desired Qualifications
- At least two years of prior teaching experience to adult learners preferred
- Stay well-informed with the trends and developments in ESL studies by attending professional development activities outside of CSI and completing a minimum of two professional growth activities annually
