Job Summary
The Instructor, Caterpillar, Transportation Technologies is a full-time faculty role responsible for teaching Caterpillar courses related to transportation technologies and heavy equipment. Responsibilities include instruction of courses covering heavy equipment electronics, fluid power, mechanics, diesel engine repair, and related systems; mentoring students in classroom and lab settings; organizing facts and materials for presentations; maintaining safety and classroom order; keeping up to date on new technologies and certifications per college stakeholders; pursuing Caterpillar Instruction Accreditation Program (CIAP) within two years; and coordinating with Caterpillar dealers and Caterpillar corporation for materials and internships. Skills emphasized include the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment (loaders, graders, multifunctional tracked vehicles), demonstration of assembly/disassembly principles, quick decision making under pressure, project management, and student evaluation. The position is based at Owens Community College with campuses in Toledo and Findlay, OH, and requires teamwork, professionalism, and alignment with the college mission and inclusive culture.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in a discipline relevant to the heavy equipment industry or technologies associated with the position
- experience working in or with heavy equipment in the service environment
- certification in the core areas or capable of achieving core certification through Caterpillar's certification process
- experience with heavy equipment, electrical, mechanical, fluid power, refrigeration, and diesel engine repair principles - preferably with respect to the Heavy Equipment Industry - 5 years minimum
