Job Summary

The Aviation Maintenance Technology Instructor will serve as a full-time faculty member for the four-semester FAA Aviation Maintenance Technology Certification program, teaching daytime sessions (M-F) with occasional weekend activities and potential evening courses. Responsibilities include instruction in Airframe and sheet metal, maintaining student records per FAA/Community College policies, contributing to curriculum development, coordinating with Student Services, serving on College-wide committees, and ensuring Hangar #2 facilities are maintained. Requires current FAA Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings; Bachelor's degree preferred; minimum three years’ teaching experience preferred; familiarity with FAA regulations (14 CFR Part 147); strong communication, leadership and collaborative skills; experience with instructional technology (Blackboard) and assessment of student learning outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Current FAA Mechanic Certificate with both Airframe and Powerplant ratings for at least the three (3) year period immediately preceding appointment
  • Bachelor’s degree in this or a related field is preferred, but not required
  • At least three or more years of experience teaching the subject matter is preferable
  • Must demonstrate knowledge in maintenance fundamentals, aviation materials, electrical systems, engine theory and applications, aircraft metallic structures, systems and components, and other related topics
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations, particularly those associated with 14 CFR Part 147
  • Excellent leadership, management, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, financial management, and problem-solving skills
  • Must be proficient in Airframe and sheet metal
  • Ability to exercise initiative and creativity in implementing responsibilities
  • Commitment to student success and learner-centered environment
  • Experience with instructional technology and online learning, including Blackboard
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and administrators on curriculum goals
  • Professionalism and customer service skills
  • Experience teaching at the postsecondary level (preferred)
