Job Summary
Instructor I at Aspire BHDD provides 1:1 enhanced support within Day Services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Duties include ensuring safety and cleanliness of assigned areas, supervising daily living activities, providing personal supports (toileting, bathing, grooming, laundry), conducting and documenting observations, tracking progress toward ISP goals, developing and delivering training activities, and maintaining routine documentation such as seizure or behavior logs. The role requires ability to maintain a 1:10 staff-to-people-supported ratio, deliver CPR/First Aid/CPI training as needed, transport individuals as required, and participate in performance improvement initiatives. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM; hourly non-exempt status. Requires entry-level qualifications (high school diploma/GED or Associate degree) with relevant experience in social or direct care services in a human service setting, and competencies in communication, confidentiality, and program documentation. The position is based in Dawson, Georgia (US) and falls under the I/DD Day Services work unit, with supervision by the SST III – Day Services Care Plan Coordinator.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or Associate degree
- One year experience providing social or direct care services to groups of special needs individuals in a human service setting
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills
- Crisis Intervention training
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Valid driver’s license and valid auto insurance
- Ability to use a computer
- Ability to observe and monitor individuals' behavior
- Ability to supervise individuals with daily living activities
- Ability to develop individualized plans
- Ability to complete evaluations to determine functional level of individuals
- Knowledge of confidentiality policies and ISP documentation
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing
- CPR, First Aid, CPI or AAA as the situation presents
- Ability to train individuals in personal hygiene and other daily living activities
- Ability to maintain relationships with community employers
- Knowledge of safety policies and procedures
- Knowledge of program area
- Ability to participate in staff meetings and training
- Ability to track goal progress in ISP
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
- Ability to operate state vehicles following safety laws
