Job Summary
Instructional paraprofessional providing direct support to students under teacher guidance. Responsibilities include coaching and modeling to engage students in instructional activities, ensuring safety and confidentiality, collaborating with teachers and related staff to implement plans, assisting with monitoring progress (data collection/computer work), and supporting classroom management and student supervision during non-instructional times such as bus duty, meals, recess, and field trips. Must assist with self-help skills as needed and support adherence to IEP goals and accommodations. Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance and to stand for extended periods; CPR/First Aid and safety trainings may be required. Strong communication skills in English (and another language if assignment requires) and familiarity with basic software applications and assistive technology are preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Holds high school transcript or equivalency
- Associates degree or higher with GPA 2.0+ OR sixty college credits OR ParaPro test score 459+
- Strong communication skills in English
- Strong communication skills in a second language if required by assignment
- Experience working with children in varied settings (preferred)
- Knowledge of behavior management procedures (preferred)
- Knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint (preferred)
- Knowledge of assistive technology and accommodations for special education students (preferred)
- Assist with self-help training (transfer, toileting, grooming, feeding) if required by assignment
- Satisfactorily pass Safety Techniques and Personal Restraint Techniques assessments (if required)
- Satisfactorily pass CPR and First Aid training (if required)
- Able to stand and work for at least 4 hours/day
- Minimum lifting requirements – 50 pounds (with assistance)
- Must be able to use arms/hands to accommodate needs of students
- Understand and implement students' IEP goals and accommodations (special education) (required for program)
- Commitment to student safety, confidentiality, and appropriate collaboration with teachers and staff
