Job Summary

The Instructional Interpreter provides interpreting and transliterating services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students to ensure equitable communication access across academic and extracurricular settings. Responsibilities include collaborating with educational staff, preparing lesson materials for accurate interpretation, adapting interpreting methods to students' needs, and supporting instructional continuity. Required qualifications include a high school diploma, graduation from an Interpreter Training Program, and fluency in ASL and English. Prior knowledge of Deaf culture and interpreter ethics is essential. This part-time position includes work in classrooms and community-based settings.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
  • Knowledge of Deaf culture
  • Knowledge of the RID Code of Professional Conduct and interpreter ethics

Desired Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized Interpreter Training Program (ITP)
  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
  • National Interpreter Certification (RID)
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification

Additional Requirements

  • Must be fingerprinted
  • Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation
