Job Summary

The Instructional Design Intern will assist the Youth Instructional Design Specialist with curriculum design and resource development for youth programs, including the Empower Tutoring and Mini Newcomer Youth Summer Academy. Responsibilities include organizing assessment data to develop staff training and educator toolkits, developing age-appropriate lesson plans and digital tools, supporting instruction and classroom activities, collaborating with teachers and volunteers, maintaining case notes on a shared platform, developing pre-ELP assessments, and contributing to program evaluation and documentation. The role emphasizes English language development, social-emotional learning, and age-appropriate ESOL curriculum design, with 15–20 hours/week in-person commitment in the US (Elizabeth, NJ). Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or have earned a bachelor's or master's degree in ESOL, social work, education, public health, or related fields
  • Experience working with children and youth in educational and social programs
  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations is highly desirable
  • Fluency in a second language preferred (Spanish, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Farsi, Kiswahili, Haitian Creole)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience using Microsoft and digital platforms such as Excel, Forms, Word, Canva
  • Empathy, patience, cooperation, and interpersonal skills while working as a team and with clients
  • High understanding or working knowledge of lesson planning and curriculum
  • Availability to commit 15–20 hours a week in person
