Job Summary
Provide small group instruction for students through guided reading and literacy groups while maintaining and updating student records as required by the government. Work in coordination with classroom teachers in monitoring, reinforcing, and evaluating student performance, including maintaining the Monitoring Notebook for state audits and responding to inquiries from auditors during the State of Michigan grant audit. Attend continuous, intensive professional development within and outside of the district. Perform other duties as assigned. This role supports the Elementary Building Principal and Central Office Administration.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma (or equivalent)
- Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours)
- Obtain an Associate's Degree (or higher)
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment: Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing and mathematics
- Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate
- ETS ParaPro Assessment with a passing score of 460
- Michigan Test for Teacher Certification - Basic Skills (MTTC) with a passing score
- SAT (taken on or after March 5, 2016) with Evidence-based Reading & Writing score of 480 and Mathematics score of 530
- ACT (taken between January 1, 1989 and October 1, 2017) with Reading score of 22, Combined English/Writing score of 22, and Mathematics score of 22
- Michigan Merit Examination (MME) (taken between January 1, 2007 and January 31, 2015) with Reading score of 1108, Writing score of 1129, and Mathematics score of 1116
- WorkKeys (taken before June 1, 2017) with Reading for Information Level 4 minimum, Applied Mathematics Level 4 minimum, and Writing Level 3 minimum
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Highly organized
- Ability to work directly with children in an instructional setting
- Basic computer application skills, i.e. Google apps, etc.
- Ability to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see, and use repetitive motions
- Ability to lift and/or move at least twenty-five (25) pounds of materials
- Close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus
- Ability to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public/staff/students
- Drug-free workplace status (free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances in the workplace)
