Job Summary
Instructional Assistant supports the classroom teacher in planning, guiding, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered Catholic school environment. The role involves preparing instructional materials, assisting with students, leading small groups, substituting when necessary, supervising students before/during/after school, maintaining records, and collaborating with staff to support instructional activities planned by the teacher. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED (or higher), two years of higher education or an associate degree or equivalent instructional experience, reliable transportation, a valid driver license and vehicle insurance, and pass Safe Environment/background checks including Texas DPS fingerprinting. Must uphold school and Archdiocese policies, confidentiality, and a solution-oriented team approach. The job emphasizes adherence to Catholic education philosophy, safety standards, and professional responsibilities, with duties expanding from planning and preparation to administrative and direct instructional support, as well as collaboration with teachers and families.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED)
- Two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; or (b) Associate’s or higher degree; or (c) Knowledge and ability to assist in instruction in core subjects
- Experience working at day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed day-care centers, or similar experience with children
- License and Credentials: Reliable transportation; Valid driver license; Valid vehicle insurance; Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening; Must pass Texas DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse screening
- Minimum Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of school procedures and policies; Ability to adapt; Effective communication with students, teachers, and parents; Ability to plan and implement instructional activities; Ability to operate/use technology; Clerical responsibilities; Teamwork; Physical ability to assist students; Detail oriented; Strong written and verbal skills; Critical thinking and problem-solving
