Job Summary
Instructional Assistant — SPED position at Westminster Public Schools (F.M. Day Center for Integrated Learning). Responsibilities include building trusting relationships with students, implementing small-group reading, writing, and math lessons under the supervision of SPED teachers, monitoring and supervising students during school events, assisting with grading and documenting student needs, and following SPED instructions. Requires high school diploma or equivalent plus an Associate Degree or 48 college credits or ParaPro PRAXIS/WorkKeys, SEPA training within 90 days, and certifications/training such as First Aid/CPR or Crisis Prevention Institute. Candidates should have experience working with students who have emotional disabilities, strong communication skills, computer/keyboard proficiency, safety awareness, and the ability to collaborate with diverse backgrounds. Position is 8 hours per day, 181 days per year, with hourly wage between $25.55 and $38.74 per hour. Equal opportunity employer.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent plus an Associate Degree, 48 college semester credits, or ParaPro PRAXIS/Workeys
- SEPA training within 90 calendar days of employment
- Experience or desire working with students who have emotional disabilities
- First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain
- Competency in oral and written communication
- Computer and keyboarding skills
- Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies and procedures
- Ability to work with diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
- Ability to recognize and promote safety in the workplace
- Experience with office equipment (telephone, copier, fax, email)
- Pass pre-employment background screenings
- Ability to modify assignments and assist with accommodations
- Ability to monitor and support students during school events
- Assist with grading and documenting student needs
