Instructional Assistant - Special Services

Job Summary

Supervise and instruct individual or small groups of students with disabilities across classrooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, and field trips under the direction of certified staff. Implement academic and functional instructional programs while modeling appropriate behaviors and carrying over related services such as occupational therapy and speech. Monitor students in various settings to maintain a safe environment, assist with activities of daily living including toileting and feeding, and perform medical duties like catheterization as trained. Execute clerical tasks to adapt materials and document student progress, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Work 190 days per year for a salary commensurate with the district formula.

Required Qualifications

  • Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (60 hours of college credits)
  • Possess an Associate's Degree or higher
  • Provide documentation of passing the Paraprofessional Exam
  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain certification requirements for non-violent crisis intervention, CPR, and first aid
  • Must be willing to apply knowledge related to the stages of child development/behavior
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to perform lifting, movement, and transferring of students
  • Must be able to move students by wheelchairs
  • Must be able to handle possible exposure to bodily fluids
  • Must be able to perform daily personal close contact with students
  • Must be able to travel between schools, or between schools and district office
