Job Summary
Conduct instructional plans and Individual Education Plans as designated by the classroom teacher. Assist students individually and in groups to present or reinforce learning concepts while administering tests, homework assignments, and make-up work. Maintain a pleasant and orderly classroom environment by managing instructional materials, designing bulletin boards, and assisting with clean-up activities. Support classroom behavior and control, assigning discipline when directed by the teacher, and facilitate related instructional activities such as field trips, library use, and assemblies. Supervise students in the cafeteria, during lunch periods, and during free time or other non-instructional periods. Assist with the physical movement of students, including toileting, feeding, and positioning, and support carry-over of related services like Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech. Perform clerical duties including typing, filing, duplicating, and maintaining student records. Participate in team meetings and record attendance and collect lunch monies as directed.
Required Qualifications
- completed at least 60 hours of college credit
- earned an associate's or higher degree
- successfully passed the ParaPro Assessment
- ability to lift 40 pounds
- ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
- significant fine dexterity
- 50% sitting
- 25% walking
- 25% standing
- occasional attendance at parent conferences
- occasional attendance at building-level and division-wide meetings
- occasional attendance at training activities beyond the normal assigned hours
- Daily personal close contact with children
- Regular contact with other staff members
- Regular contact with parents
- Regular contact with medical professionals
