Job Summary
Assist a licensed classroom teacher with one-on-one support for special education students, addressing academic, functional, or behavioral needs. Reinforce skills introduced by the teacher, devise strategies based on individual student needs, and implement behavior intervention plans under direction. Monitor student behavior, maintain a structured classroom environment, and ensure student safety while collaborating to understand each student's requirements. Create and modify instructional materials, collect data, and develop classroom displays. Follow Wake County Public School System policies and regulations, maintain confidentiality of student information, and participate in professional development. Perform clerical duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of classroom activities and routines
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Google Apps
- Working knowledge of effective methods for instructing special education students
- Excellent customer service skills
- Organizational skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff and parents/guardians
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate or bachelor's degree in any field
- 48 hours of college semester credits as evidence through transcript
- 96 Professional Development hours
- Successful completion of the Work Keys Assessments
- Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working as a special education services teacher assistant
- CPR and First Aid certification
