Job Summary
Instructional Assistant for Special Education at Needham Public Schools. Under the supervision of the Special Education Teacher, Classroom Teacher, and Special Education Coordinator/Director, the Teaching Assistant will support students with IEP objectives, work with students individually and in small groups, employ augmentative technology, use strategies such as positive reinforcement, visual supports, queuing, and de-escalation, assist with preparing instructional materials and the learning environment, support classroom behavior management, supervise non-instructional times (lunch/recess/arrival/dismissal), assist with student self-care activities (hand-washing, mealtime, dressing routines), and perform any additional tasks as assigned. The role requires collaboration with the team, the ability to carry out instructions, knowledge of developmental age-appropriate skills, and a commitment to equity in education.
Required Qualifications
- Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or at least 2 years experience in a similar role
- Passion for working with children/students with disabilities
- Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple team members
- Knowledge of academic and social skills unique to developmental age
