Job Summary
Coordinate instructional programs for special education students by supporting teachers with IEP implementation, behavioral intervention plans, and classroom procedures. Provide direct in-class assistance including mobility support, personal hygiene, and the use of assistive technology to promote student independence. Compile and maintain confidential records while ensuring a safe environment for students with diverse learning needs. Work within a team environment to facilitate student transitions and participate in staff development. Requires CPI certification and experience with severe learning disabilities.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Associate's degree in birth-through-kindergarten, child development, early childhood education, or an early childhood education related field
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
- Six documented semester hours of coursework in early childhood education
- Two years of work experience in an early childhood setting
- Experience working with or assisting individuals with special needs
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification
- Ability to protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA)
- Ability to work in a team environment and effectively collaborate with others
- Ability to motivate students
- Ability to constantly monitor and supervise the safety and well-being of students
- Ability to recognize and support students with a variety of backgrounds, abilities, exceptionalities, behavioral needs, and learning styles
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, businesses, community agencies, and the public
- Ability to use a variety of office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly
