Job Summary
Deliver classroom work and reinforce objectives through 1:1 or small group instruction tailored to student IEP goals. Assist with modifying curriculum, developing instructional materials, and performing routine clerical tasks including Medicaid billing. Monitor and respond to problem behaviors using positive intervention plans and ASPEN protocols while implementing de-escalation strategies. Provide direct support for daily living activities, personal hygiene, and physical transfers for students with disabilities. Collect academic and behavioral data using district-approved tools and collaborate with the SPED team to meet individual goals. Maintain a safe environment by monitoring students in classrooms and on the playground, transferring equipment, and ensuring classroom supplies are organized.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or 60 college credit hours
- Pass the ParaPro Test provided by the district free of charge
- Regular and on-time attendance
Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience and record of effectiveness in similar roles
- Ability and willingness to work with special education students who may require specialized instruction to meet academic, social, and behavior goals
- Ability to work well with students, staff and parents
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well in stressful situations
- Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, etc)
- Ability to operate standard office equipment
- Ability to organize and prioritize and to follow classroom guidelines as put forth by classroom teacher
