Job Summary

Monitor and instruct special education students by delivering classroom work, reinforcing objectives, and assisting with academic, daily living, and health care activities. Under direct supervision, help teachers with routine clerical tasks, develop instructional materials, and collect data on student goals. Implement positive behavior intervention plans for students displaying challenging behaviors, including verbal and physical aggression, while responding to incidents according to district policy. Transfer and lift non-ambulatory students, assist with personal hygiene, and accompany students across campus to ensure safety. Maintain classroom equipment and model professional behavior while participating in meetings to share information. Work part-time (29 hours per week) at Pomeroy Elementary School with an annual base hourly rate of $16.56. An Associate's degree or 60 college credits is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or 60 college credit hours
  • Pass the ParaPro Test provided by the district free of charge
  • Regular and on-time attendance

Desired Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with children
  • Ability and willingness to work with special education students who may require specialized instruction to meet academic, social, and behavior goals
  • Ability to work well with students, staff and parents
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in stressful situations
  • Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, etc)
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize and to follow classroom guidelines as put forth by classroom teacher
