Job Summary
Instructional Assistant supports classroom teachers by aiding instruction and directing activities to create a well-organized classroom. Responsibilities include assisting with student exercises and materials, reinforcing skills taught by teachers, administering and grading tests, recording grades, supervising students (bus loading/unloading, hallways, field trips, lunch, and school grounds), assisting in computer lab operations, preparing instructional materials (transparencies, charts, graphs, and AV equipment), maintaining student records, and interacting with teachers, administrators, parents, and other staff. The role may involve working with students from various levels (kindergarten through high school) and supporting special education needs. Requires interpreting lesson plans, monitoring behavior, and participating in staff development; minimum education/training includes substantial college coursework or Praxis ParaPro with relevant experience.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Education: 60 college hours from an accredited college or university or Praxis ParaPro + two years of experience working with children in an education-oriented setting
Desired Qualifications
- Special Education experience
- Experience assisting teachers in classroom settings
- Ability to supervise students and manage classroom activities
- Experience with computer labs and AV equipment
- Praxis ParaPro or equivalent training preferred
