Job Summary
Instructional Assistant supports teaching staff by coordinating instructional efforts with the classroom teacher, supervising students in cafeteria/library/play areas, preparing and operating teaching aids and learning technology, assisting in preparing reports/materials, and communicating with parents about student progress. The role involves helping students individually or in small groups to present or reinforce concepts and adapting to changes in priorities.
Required Qualifications
- Two-year degree or 48 college semester hours
- Evidence of good written and spoken communication skills
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Discusses assigned duties with the classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts
- Supervises groups to cafeteria, library, playground, and other areas as assigned
- Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids
- Operates learning aids and technological equipment
- Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts
- Assists teacher in preparation of reports and/or materials
- Assists in conferring with parents on the progress of students
- Requires adaptability to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations
