Job Summary
Intensive Special Education Instructional Assistant provides 1:1 or small group specialized instruction for students with significant special needs using applied behavior analysis (ABA). Responsibilities include implementing student-specific behavior intervention plans, utilizing visual supports and cuing, de-escalation strategies, and providing motor breaks; preventing and managing behavioral challenges per district protocols; supporting classroom integration through academic, social, and behavioral interventions; providing augmentative communication and assistive-technology support for non-speaking or limited-communication students; delivering life-skills instruction (toileting, self-care, travel training); offering pre-vocational training and job coaching; assisting with data collection to monitor progress and develop support plans; assisting students through the school day and preparing instructional materials; enabling home/school communications and providing regular feedback to the special education team; and performing other related duties as assigned. Knowledge/skills include ability to follow verbal and written instructions, understanding of developmental and behavioral needs, decision-making to ensure student safety (including safety training), collaboration with team members, and maintaining confidentiality. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree or at least 2 years of related experience, and a demonstrated aptitude and passion for working with students with complex disabilities. The role is normally performed in a school/classroom environment with potential field trips and requires an hourly wage range of $24.94-$29.27. Physical requirements include mobility and ability to assist students, with Safety Care training and potential restraint responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or at least 2 years experience in a similar role (i.e. ABA, job coaching, etc)
- Demonstrate aptitude for work to be performed
- Passion for working with children/students with complex disabilities
- Basic knowledge of child growth and development
