Job Summary
Assist teachers in pre-kindergarten classrooms under the direct supervision of a Highly Qualified Teacher to maintain a well-organized educational environment. Support the instructional program and resources for four-year-olds, including emergent literacy, VPK assessments, and adherence to Standards for Four Year Olds. Requires Associate Degree (60 college hours) or ParaPro testing; CDA credential or completion within two years; mandatory First Aid/CPR/AED training or completion within specified timelines; health and background screenings; and training in VPK-related guidelines. Eligible candidates preferred if they have prior Head Start involvement.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree, completion of 60 semester hours of college or passing score of 457 on the ParaPro Test
- Satisfactory completion of American Red Cross First Aid course, CPR course, and AED course, or complete within three months of hire
- Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, or complete within two years of hire
- Health Exam: Requires an initial health examination by physician upon offer or an official Post-Offer Employment Testing (POET)
- Tuberculosis screening for health risk assessment
- Knowledge of federal and state guidelines related to Pre-Kindergarten Services
- New staff must complete trainings within two months: Standards for Four Year Olds; Emergent Literacy for VPK Instructors; How to Administer the VPK Assessment; Language and Vocabulary in the VPK Classroom; Integrating the Standards: Phonological Awareness
