Job Summary
Under direct supervision, the Instructional Assistant provides support in an educational environment, performing paraprofessional work in assisting teachers and students. The Instructional Assistant works with children individually or in small groups by providing basic instruction in reading, writing, math, spelling, art, or other education-related activities. The Instructional Assistant is responsible for leading and supervising a variety of developmentally-appropriate activities, as directed by the assigned teacher(s). Performs related work as directed. Monitors activities and behavior to ensure safety and appropriate conduct; assists teachers in supervising learning activities; provides instruction as prescribed; checks and evaluates students’ work; assists in managing behavior; prepares instructional materials; coordinates with media center staff; maintains records and data; stays current with technology used by the district; and supports classroom objectives and learning tools. This role is scheduled to work all days when students are in attendance, following the school calendar, with starting pay $16.05 per hour and eligible for specified benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher, or at least sixty (60) semester hours from an accredited institution (official transcripts required) or passing the ParaPro test
- Previous vocational training and/or work experience with school-age children preferred
- Ability to meet paraprofessional requirements as outlined in ESSA; Expanded Criminal History Check and Expanded Child Protection Index Check; ParaPro assessment available
- Ability to perform essential functions and meet performance aptitudes and physical/sensory/environmental requirements
