Job Summary
Support student success by building positive relationships, providing consistent encouragement, and helping students identify and take responsibility for academic and personal challenges. Conduct regular check-ins, active listening, and problem-solving while connecting students with campus and community resources. Supervise students individually or in small groups, assist in maintaining health and safety, and reinforce classroom rules. Provide direct service for feeding, assist with toileting, mobility, and assistive technology, and accompany students to instructional areas. Correct disruptive behavior constructively and assist with physical care as needed. Requires lifting up to 100 lbs, standing, kneeling, and extensive use of hands. Must hold a Substitute or Professional Education License and attend in-services.
Required Qualifications
- Substitute Teaching License or a Professional Education License issued by ISBE
- Basic knowledge in appropriate academic areas
- Basic knowledge of students' physical condition, if applicable
- Superior work habits and ethics including but not limited to—Promptness and excellent attendance
- Positive attitude
- High level of personal fitness
- Sound judgment
- Ability to produce excellent quality of work
- Adaptability when necessary
- Ability to work well with administration, faculty, students and parents
- Ability to perform duties as outlined
- Ability to lift, push or pull up to 20-40 pounds on a regular repetitive basis
- Ability to lift, push or pull up to 100 pounds on a regular repetitive basis
- Ability to speak, hear, see, write, walk, climb, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, twist, turn, push, pull and reach (above head and below knees) on a regular and repetitive basis
- Ability to perform tasks requiring extensive use of hands including repetitive gripping, grasping, lifting and manipulation of equipment necessary to perform duties
