Job Summary
Instructional Assistant provides instructional and clerical support under the supervision of a certified teacher or administrator. Responsibilities include working with individuals or small groups of students, checking papers and monitoring progress, preparing and arranging instructional materials, supervising activities and field trips, assisting with classroom duties (reading, attendance, collecting money, scheduling parent-teacher conferences), using computer programs to assist students, and substituting for teachers in emergencies. Requires high school diploma or equivalent (with 48 college credits or ParaPro required for Title One Schools), strong written and verbal communication, knowledge of English, spelling, vocabulary, and mathematics, ability to maintain confidentiality, and reliable attendance. 10-month, 190 days per year, 7 hours per day; non-exempt from overtime; salary scale starting at $20.03/hour with placement per district procedures. Location: Frederick High School, Frederick, MD. Favorable emphasis on supporting FCPS goals and ongoing professional development.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- minimum of 48 college credits, AA degree or passing of the ParaPro Assessment Test will be required for Title One Schools
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely in both oral and written form
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations
