Job Summary
Instructional Assistant supports classroom teachers by reinforcing lessons in small groups or one-on-one settings, reviews material with students, and assists with supervising students during learning activities, cafeteria, and recess. The role involves helping with recordkeeping (attendance, grades), preparing materials and setting up equipment, and supervising students between classes, during lunch and on field trips. The assistant may work with students in labs or general classrooms, including students with special needs under IEP goals, and may support transitions and related life-skills development as appropriate. They do not design instruction but may be consulted for feedback on student progress and must adhere to established policies and procedures. Collaboration with teachers, related service personnel, and administrators is required, along with maintaining confidentiality of student information.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent
- Experience in educational environment (substitute teaching, tutoring, etc.)
- Ability to reinforce lessons through small group or 1:1 instruction
- Ability to supervise students during learning activities, cafeteria, and recess
- Ability to follow lead of certified teacher and adhere to policies
- Confidentiality regarding student information
