Job Summary
Assist a certified teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in a classroom or other learning environment. Reinforce academic instruction in reading, writing, language arts, math, and social studies while performing remedial exercises and using games or skits to support comprehension. Observe and control student behavior during instruction, snack time, and movement across campus locations. Prepare instructional materials, flash cards, and homework packets; administer, correct, and record tests and assignments. Perform clerical duties including updating folders, recording grades, taking roll, and maintaining records. Operate audio-visual equipment, copiers, and computers as needed. Provide immediate basic first aid and emotional support to students.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 30 college credit hours
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Knowledge of local, state and federal laws governing education
- Knowledge of elementary, secondary or special education principles, practices and procedures
- Knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching
- Knowledge of No Child Left Behind, Texas Education Agency, and school rules, regulations and procedures
- Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of people and remain sensitive to their concerns
- Ability to present a positive and professional image of Cityscape Schools
- Basic subjects taught including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading
- Correct oral and written usage of English and a designated second language
- Child guidance principles and practices
- Classroom procedures and conduct
- Basic instructional techniques
- School and classroom rules, policies and procedures
- Safe practices in classroom activities
- Reading and writing communication skills
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
- Record-keeping techniques
- Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively
- Ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing
- Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
- Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching
- Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to 50 pounds
Desired Qualifications
- Associates Degree preferred
- Experience working with youth in an organized setting
- Some instructional experience in a classroom environment working with children and parents with special needs, multicultural and multi-ethnic backgrounds
