Job Summary
Instructional Assistant at Staunton City Schools to support classroom teachers in delivering instruction, creating teaching aids, and assisting with instructional activities. Responsibilities include 1:1 and group student assistance, preparing instructional materials (charts, centers, graphs), assisting with field trips and library activities, helping maintain a safe and orderly classroom, supporting adherence to classroom management policies, and complying with district policies. Requires working with students under teacher supervision, completing required background and training, and meeting qualification standards for paraprofessional roles (including Paraprofessional Assessment or equivalent education credits).
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Paraprofessional Assessment with score 455 or alternative: 48 college credits OR Associate’s Degree
- Criminal background check required
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Demonstrate basic reading, writing and computation skills
- Experience working with groups of children
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision
- Safe and positive classroom management ability
