Job Summary
Assist teachers with executing instruction, evaluating effectiveness, and providing one-on-one academic and behavioral support. Monitor student safety, attitudes, and discipline while maintaining an orderly classroom environment. Conduct short study skills sessions, reinforce instructions, and maintain standardized records, including incident reports and attendance logs. Serve as a test proctor, develop instructional materials, and perform general housekeeping and clerical duties as directed. Feed and assist students unable to perform tasks independently. Participate in staff development workshops and meetings as required.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree
- 48-semester hours of transferable college coursework
- 96-contact hours of college coursework plus passing scores on the WorkKeys test
- Minimum of 48 hours of college level coursework with a GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Valid driver's license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
- Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment
- Ability to perform general clerical duties
- Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom
- Ability to operate common office machines
- Ability to serve as a testing proctor as requested
- Ability to maintain basic files and records
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to speak English clearly in order to be understood by students
- Ability to exhibit empathy and patience especially with younger children and children with special needs
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
Desired Qualifications
- Two (2) to five (5) years serving as a classroom teacher assistant
- Training in dealing with students with special needs
- Spanish Speaking
