Job Summary
Administer first aid and medical assistance, including toileting, medication, and hygiene for students with significant learning challenges. Provide physical care by lifting and securing students with disabilities, while supporting instructional activities through adapting materials and administering assessments. Implement behavior management plans and crisis interventions under direction. Monitor student activities during lunch, bus stops, and field trips to ensure safety. Maintain records of academic progress and instructional materials. Collaborate with teachers to evaluate IEP objectives and review classroom lessons. Operate assistive technology and attend training on emergency procedures. Work 7 hours per day following the school calendar.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Job-related experience
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
- Basic math skills, including calculations using fractions, percents, and ratios
- Ability to read manuals, write documents, present information, and solve practical problems
- Understanding instructional procedures and practices, age-appropriate student activities, safety practices, conflict resolution, and stages of child development/behavior
- Ability to schedule activities, gather and classify data, and consider various factors when using equipment
- Ability to work flexibly with others, manage data using defined processes, and operate equipment using standardized methods
- Ability to adapt to changing work priorities, communicate with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, solve problems, and handle crisis situations
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and manage constant interruptions
- Ability to work under direct supervision using standardized routines
- Ability to lead, guide, and coordinate others
- Ability to operate within a defined budget

- Ability to attend training and meetings such as first aid, CPR, and emergency procedures
- Ability to administer First Aid and Medical Assistance
- Ability to assist with self-care plans such as toileting, diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, personal hygiene, dressing, medication, and other daily living activities
- Ability to assist students with severe physical disabilities, including lifting and securing students' wheelchairs, seat-belts, or other safety restraints
- Ability to collaborate with supervising teachers, classroom teachers, and special education teams to adapt, modify, and implement activities, assignments, and materials
- Ability to support instructional and developmental activities, content-area instruction for small groups or individual students and administer tests and assessments
- Ability to work with supervising instructional and professional support personnel to assist in evaluating academic progress and implementing IEP objectives
- Ability to implement student behavior intervention plans (BIP), learning contracts, reinforcement systems, and other strategies to manage and improve student behavior, including crisis intervention
- Ability to organize and maintain files and records, including instructional materials and both manual and electronic files
- Ability to supervise students during various school activities, including lunch, bus stops, playground, classroom, field trips, public transportation, assemblies, and kitchen
- Ability to use assistive technology and other tools to support student learning and communication
- Ability to assist teachers by reviewing classroom lessons and learning experiences with students requiring individual attention
- Ability to follow school policies and procedures
- Ability to maintain prompt and consistent attendance
- Ability to perform other duties as assigned
