Job Summary
Supervise student arrival and dismissal, check-in with administrators for daily priorities, and assist teachers with students struggling to maintain appropriate classroom behaviors. Work one-on-one or in small groups to reteach expectations, push into classrooms to support students with behavioral challenges, and supervise in-school suspensions. Provide direct caregiving services including feeding and toileting under staff supervision, assist with recess and lunch, and substitute for staff when no substitute is available. Attend Student Support Team meetings to problem-solve academic and behavioral options. This role supports the mission of Columbia Public School District, requiring a Missouri substitute teaching certificate and 36+ college credits.
Required Qualifications
- Missouri substitute teaching certificate
- 36+ college credit hours
- Associates degree
- 20-hour DESE sub training course
- Prior experience in a school setting
- Prior experience working with young people
- Ability to read, comprehend, and produce written and oral instructions, correspondence, and memos
- Ability to communicate one-on-one and in small groups
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to solve problems involving concrete variables within standardized situations
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- Excellent oral, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent listening skills
- Ability to speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously
- Ability to move around a classroom to interact with and manage students/groups of students
- Ability to read handwritten or printed material
- Ability to frequently stand, stoop, bend, and kneel
- Ability to physically assist students with feeding, self-care, and toilet tasks
- Ability to quickly follow or catch up to a mobile student and redirect the student back to the appropriate class or activity
